Garden Starter Days

New to gardening, seen the TV programmes but don’t know where to start?

I can get you started with a one day (or more) session working together to turn your garden dreams into reality. Let me work with you to develop your gardening knowledge and skills.

This could be anything from:

  • Providing design inspiration and ideas
  • Garden maintenance including pruning and cutting back
  • Creating a beautiful border and planting out plants
  • Making a vegetable garden or water feature
  • Sowing seeds and taking cuttings
  • Preparing the soil, mulching and composting

I will arrange an initial visit to talk through your ideas, see the garden and existing plants and take soil samples to assess soil type. Then we’ll have a day or more working together to start improving your garden. To help you look after your garden in the future I will also give you a garden care plan with advice on what to do when.

Garden Advice

Know what you want to achieve, would like to discuss options and ideas but not commission a detailed design?

I will arrange to visit, allowing about three hours to see the garden and discuss your plans with you. Then I will produce a report covering the options in more detail, with planting suggestions and any minor landscaping alterations.

Border Design - before

Border Design

New border or existing border needing a makeover?

A new or revitalised border will add life and colour to your garden and make it a more attractive space.

I can design a planting plan for part of your garden and give you a scale drawing showing the plants and quantities required together with a plant care plan. If you wish, I can assist you to prepare the border and plant it up.

Garden Design - Artist's Impression

Garden Design

Tired of that boring view of the lawn from the house?

Maybe you just want a quiet corner to sit in, an outdoor room to entertain in on sunny days, a garden full of plants, a water feature or perhaps to replace that leylandii hedge with something more interesting.

If so, I can give you ideas for your garden that will give you colour, structure and interest all year round. A new design can transform your garden, make your home more attractive, entice you outside, and add value to your property.

The design can include planting, garden features, water features and hard landscaping in a range of styles from traditional to modern, whatever suits you and your lifestyle.

This includes:

  • A survey of the garden including soil test
  • Colour design drawing
  • Illustrative sketches showing how the garden will look when completed
  • Planting plans for each border
  • Basic construction details for hard landscaping features
  • A design report including photographs of key plants and features, site preparation advice, plant lists, suggested suppliers, and maintenance calendar.
