Privacy and Cookie Policy

We like questions, and giving answers, so that’s how we’re going to explain how we work with your data.

I just want the really short version please.

Ok. We do collect basic tracking data and contact information and we do use cookies. But we don’t do anything weird with them. They’re all used for your benefit, or for the general betterment of the site and services provided by Garden Mentor LLP. If you’d like to know more, please read on, or use one of the question below to jump to that answer:

Do you collect my data or personal information?

Yes, the nature of the services provided by Garden Mentor LLP means we will need to obtain certain information about you. Don’t worry though, it is most often for replying to your enquiries or for remembering useful details which make the site easier to use.

What kind of data do you collect?

We collect contact details offered to us such as your name, email address and phone number – we require this to return contact for any enquiries you may make. Additionally comments made on our blog requires similar contact details to be entered.

Who can access it?

Us, and any third parties required to provide you with our service. We will only pass your details on to third parties if you have consented to us doing so.

What kind of third-parties are you talking about?

External agents providing a service to us, or providing a service to you. For example you may use a separate hosting company, and as such we may need to send them instructions and details on your behalf.

Is that it? What about Google Analytics?

Not quite. We also use Google Analytics to collect completely anonymous data about your browsing habits. We use this to improve the site (and will use it on sites we build for you to improve yours as well). The data is anonymous but can pick up browsing habits on the site, country/region information and time spent on a page.

I am worried about cookies – do you use them?

Yes. Cookies are tiny files stored on your computer by the website, these little snippets contain no personal data, but help us make the website (and services on the website) work better.

Okay, can you give me an example of what a cookie does?

They can do lots of things, but one of the usual ones is remembering that you’re logged into the site – making it easier for you to leave comments or take part in discussions (on our blog for example).

Other examples include tracking cookies from Google analytics which tracks anonymous information about your browsing habits.

Well, what’s a tracking cookie then?

A tracking cookie tells us a variety of things, including the last page you’ve visited previously, whether you’ve been on the site before and when this happened. We use Google Analytics for this purpose.

I’m not convinced, how do I opt out?

You can learn how to control and delete cookies over here: http://www.aboutcookies.org/

What are you responsible for on this site?

We’re responsible for the content of this website. However we may link to other websites, or reference content from other websites which we are not responsible for. We are not responsible for their data policies, procedures or content.

Will you protect my data?

We’ll do our best. We will take all reasonable steps to protect your personal data – but we cannot guarantee the security of any data you disclose online. By using this site you accept the inherent security implications of dealing online and will not hold us responsible for any breach in security unless we have been negligent or in willful default.

What about the Data Protection Act?

Any details that you provide to us from which we can identify you are protected by the Data Protection Act.

How can I contact you?

There’s lots of ways – you can email us directly at janet@gardenmentor.co.uk or even just give us a call on 07984 627 270.
